Backmasking

Posted by Ben Harris

Since I have some time on my hands, Im going to write a little article about backmasking. Backmasking is basically when a song contains a hidden message which can be heard when played in reverse. There are many well known songs that contain these hidden messages. The most impressive from my point of view is Stairway to heaven by Led Zeppelin.

When played forward, you will hear the following: ”If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow, don’t be alone now, it’s just a spring clean for the May queen. Yes there are two paths you can go back, but in the long run there’s still time to change the road you’re on.

However when played backwards, you will hear the message: “Here’s to my sweet Satan. The one whose little path would make me sad, whose power is satan. He’ll give you 666, there was a little toolshed where he made us suffer, sad Satan.

Ok, here come the skeptics. So I have personally reversed this section of the song. The forward verse starts at about 4.20 in the song.

After some research on this, its also interesting to not that one of the artists (Jimmy Page) bought Aleister Crowley’s house in Scotland which had become a well known Satanic church and was known amongst them as ‘The Toolhouse’. Crowley had advocated in his books that his followers should learn to read and speak backwards.

Set a Blank Password in Windows XP To Protect the Computer from Internet Attacks

Posted by Ben Harris

Some useful information. Your Windows XP computer is more safe if you don’t set any password at all than using some weak password like “abc123″ which can be easily guessed by hackers.

Using a blank password (or no password at all) makes your computer more secure because Windows XP accounts, that are not protected by a password, cannot be accessed remotely over the network or the Internet.

You have to be physically infront of the computer in order to get in. Due to this default behavior, it is better to leave a blank password assigned to an XP account rather than assigning a weak, easily guessed password.

An official guide from Microsoft on Password strength therefore suggests using blank passwords on Windows XP machines when the following criteria are met:

• You only have one computer or you have several computers but you do not need to access information on one computer from another one

• The computer is physically secure (you trust everyone who has physical access to the computer - like your family members)

The use of a blank password is not always a good idea particularly when the computer is not in a secure location. For example, a laptop computer that you take with you is probably not physically secure, so on those you should have a strong password.

Update: If you want to access your XP Professional computer over the network ever after the password is blank, run gpedit.msc in the Run box and disable the setting “Limit local account use of blank passwords to console login only” available under Local Policies. [source: http://www.labnol.org] .

Welcome

Posted by Ben Harris

Welcome to HarrisUK.org, this is my personal website that I will continue to update with my latest and greatest news.

Firstly a little about me. My name is Ben Harris, Im currently studying Computing, ICT and Business at Long Road 6th Form College. I run quite a few websites that all do various things. My main project is One X Host for which I am constantly working on to improve, and provide really great service to all of my customers.

My favourite site after One X Host is ClixSer.com, Its a really clever little site which allows anyone to get a free disposable email address by just visiting the page, no need to do anything really. Just browse in, it the automatically generates a random email address and copys it to your computers clipboard, then all you have to do is paste it into a site that you dont want to recieve emails from, and any emails sent from that site then appear in your ‘virtual’ inbox on ClixSer! Sounds complicated when you explain it, but trust me its as easy as pie. Mmmm Pie.

Thanks for visiting,

Ben Harris
